About the artist

EWAH

EWAH brings universality to the personal. With guitar and vocals as her mainstay instruments her songs go on journeys from the intimate to the expansive, coloured with flecks of psychedelic folk, alt-country and art pop. 

EWAH is an award-winning musician and filmmaker and has completed two artist residencies in Lutruwita/Tasmania withThe Unconformity (2022) andAssembly 197 (2023). EWAH was also selected forGreen Music Australia’s annualSound Country Artist Leadership Retreat (2024). 

EWAH co-directed and produced a feature filmFinding Paradise which has picked up awards internationally. Her practice crosses discipline from acting and writing to filmmaking and scoring for screen. In 2023, she was the recipient of theAPRA Screenworks Screen Composer Mentorship and selected for theAPRA Screen Composer Songhub 2024. You can hear her work inGrove of Giants, (Sydney Film Fest 24, Adelaide Film Fest 24). She has also lead workshops forAPRA EQUALIZE songwriting workshops for women and gender diverse songwriters (2024) and on storytelling withAustralian Plays Transform (2023).

Now based in nipaluna/Hobart Lutruwita/Tasmania, for many years EWAH called Naarm/Melbourne home, performing asE-wah Lady, thenE-wah. Her work during this time embraced a lo-fi and DIY aesthetic such asLights & Sirens (2007) and experimental albumGOSPEL DANCE (2010). 

In 2010 E-wah took home theAPRA Darebin Songwriters’ Award for acapella song When You’re Down & Out.

EWAH has played at many festivals includingn A Festival Called Panama, Festival of Voices, Mona Foma, Dark Mofo, BIGSOUND, Party in the Paddock, Lightwave andMelbourne Fringe Festival. She is also the guitarist and vocalist for Nipaluna/Hobart based four-pieceEWAH & The Vision of Paradise.
