Brisbane/Meanjin-based band Mermaid Avenue returns with their fourth studio album, Jacarandas, a collection that showcases their signature blend of alt-country, Americana, and indie rock. Following the release of their third album, 'Loveday No. 9', the band continues to evolve, delivering a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new. ‘Jacarandas’ is their most cohesive and mature collection of songs to date.

The album’s title track, 'Jacarandas,' is a tale of love lost, the passage of time and the bittersweet nature of memories. The song 'Boy in the Mirror' features the melancholic fiddle playing of guest artist Melinda Coles (Australian Celtic Women), adding depth to the tale of a man looking back upon what he thought as a boy he would become and realising he had made all the same mistakes as his father had made. 'She’ll Come Down When She’s Ready' delves into themes of youthful awkwardness and shyness . 'The Bigger They Are (The Harder They Fall)' which was featured in the Australian independent film 'Hero', is a poignant reflection by singer Peter Clarke on his father’s battle with dementia and the afternoons they shared when Peter was a boy watching Brothers play in the Brisbane Rugby League Premiership.

With 'Jacarandas', Mermaid Avenue continues to captivate audiences with their evocative storytelling and genre-defying sound. The album is available on vinyl and for streaming and download on various platforms, including the band’s official website.

About the artist

Mermaid Avenue

Mermaid Avenue were formed in 2015 around the songwriting of Peter Clarke. Originally a four-piece, the band has since expanded to five, delivering what Scenestr Magazine described as '.. a fluid brand of indie rock, country-rock to alt country, indie folk, and bluesy Americana.'

The music is a rich tapestry of acoustic and electric guitars, lap and pedal steel, keyboards, piano and vocal harmonies all supported by a tight, experienced rhythm section. Songs can range from simple acoustic tunes to straight out rock, and all points in between. Each song is delivered as it should be, each musician serving the song rather than their own egos.

The band have released three albums ('Temptation and Half the Truth' (2018), 'Sugartown' (2022), and 'Loveday No. 9' (2023)) that have been warmly received by critics and listeners alike. Songs from all albums have been finalists in global songwriting competitions in each year from 2019 to now, and the band's music is featured as part of the soundtrack of the independent Australian movie 'Hero'.

Greg Tuck of BDJ Sessions described their live performance on his channel as 'Mermaid Avenue have got something that a lot of bands struggle to achieve. Cohesion... They have amassed a set of tunes that are well thought out and yet seem natural.'

The band's new album 'Jacarandas' is due for release in 2025.
