Ladies’ Luck is one of those rare gems that is more than just a collection of songs - it is closer to an invigorating emotional odyssey that bares the righteous soul and chest-bursting heart of the artist-as-heroine Jackie Marshall. This album entwines multiple themes, stories, and experiences to form a rich tapestry of emotions, exploring themes of love, resilience, and how not everything is black or white.

Featuring an impressive lineup of talented musicians, including songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and frequent collaborator Chris Pickering, strings sorceress Savannah-Jo Lack, songwriter and guitarist Heath Cullen, Greg Cathcart (Speedstar/Silent Feature Era), Adrian Mauro (Machine Age), and Richard Johnston (Speedstar/Our Ithaca Creek) - who all bring depth, nuance, and their own inspiration to Jackie’s vision. Part of this record’s uniqueness is its breathtaking production, which was deftly guided behind the faders by Ben Tolliday (Lord Huron). Tolliday also recently re-mixed the record for this special vinyl release, capturing the dynamic sound of a band and incredible talent in full flight and at the height of their powers.

Jackie’s distinctive voice and poignant lyrics are already well known to the discerning music fan, and Ladies’ Luck is another incredible document marking her musicality and songwriting. From the defiant ‘Still F*#@ing Up’, to the quiet, brooding and melancholic ‘Should’ve Drunk More’, to the psychedelic and raucous ‘Ugly Man’ and her astonishing re-interpretation and definitive version of Paul Brosgarth’s ‘Excuse Me Mister (That’s My Heart)’, this record swings from vulnerability, humility, and introspection to strength, sass, and swagger.

Critically acclaimed for its authenticity, Ladies’ Luck has been praised for its “stunning blend of heart and soul” (Rolling Stone) and is not only a must-have for fans of Jackie Marshall, but all fans of heartfelt storytelling and authenticity in music.

Ladies’ Luck is out now on special vinyl release from Suitcase Records, with custom artwork designed by acclaimed visual artist Guy Burwell. Have a listen - everyone needs a little luck in their life.

About the artist

Jackie Marshall

Jackie Marshall is many things: a whirlwind of creativity, a multidisciplinary artist, and a “left field legend in the making” (Martin Jones, Rhythms Magazine). But she might describe herself as many other things too: mother, mystic, restless spirit, survivor, vagabond, and eternal optimist. With her unrestrained spirit and immense talents, Marshall shines as an acclaimed singer, musician, songwriter, poet, illustrator, and actor. To add to her diverse portfolio, she is currently Artist in Residence at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology, pushing boundaries and engaging in valuable research concerning what art can communicate.

In 2024, Marshall released her fourth full-length album, You Are Not Too Much And You Are Enough, which has garnered serious critical acclaim nationally. The album doubled as an innovative nod to the soundtrack for the feature film, Three Chords And The Truth, and was recorded with the support of Match Lab and private donors. Marshall also starred in Three Chords And The Truth, and for her outstanding performance as she was nominated for a Septimius Award in June 2024, after it generated buzz at prestigious festivals like the Brisbane International Film Festival, the Sydney Film Festival and the Aichi International Women’s Film Festival in Japan, followed by a successful cinema run across Australia. This heartfelt film, which resonates deeply with themes of breast cancer, mentorship, and a woman’s experience is available on streaming platforms now.

Her prior releases, including the alt-country gem Lilith Shrugs (2017) and the collaborative powerhouse Ladies' Luck (2010), followed her striking debut Fight’n’Flight (2007), which was nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize.

Her artistic journey is marked by collaborations with an impressive array of talents—from the legendary Sean Sennett to the experimental hybrid circus works of Chelsea McGuffin. One of the projects Marshall is most proud of is The Soldier’s Wife,  a collaborative songwriting suite that illuminates the emotional stories of the families of Australian servicepeople, which includes songs written with Roz Pappalardo and Kristy Apps.

In April 2024, Jackie returned to Japan for a brief tour, culminating in the inaugural LOVE & PEACE concert in Nagoya, honouring her roots as a devotee of the ’60s Peace Movement. With her eclectic talents and passionate approach, Jackie Marshall is not just an artist; she’s a vibrant force in the music and arts community, immensely respected by Australian. As The Weekend Australian aptly puts it, she’s “That rare thing: an Aussie original.”
