‘Some Kind Of View’ is a very special album of ten songs. The second full length album from Magpie Diaries.
Music soaked in thought and bound by respect to the many influences that have unassumingly informed the delivery of these songs, written by band leader Magpie Johnston.
With Magpie born and raised on Wonnarua Country, on a little patch of bush known today by many as Dashville. This album has a coming-of-age aesthetic, with the band finally equipped to record on home soil, honing their own sound in The Tractor Shed, a humble recording studio nestled amongst this sprawling bushland festival venue he’s had a hand in building since 2004.
The songs that form this latest body of work, written and recorded throughout a generally uncertain period 2020/23, a time when humanity was under pressure through global pandemics and rising economic pressures. The songs reveal a mind hanging onto moments, struggling to comprehend the failures of the past and trying to navigate away from what could only be considered a bleak future.
But alongside all those worldly pressures, this album also represents the natural experience and beauty of Magpie and Jess becoming parents for the first time. Something which brought monumental light into their world at such a difficult time, painting hope and colour over the darker unknown.
